North American MGB Register Chairperson Vote Candidates' Letters to Affiliate Chapter Members
From: Richard G. Liddick
To: All NAMGBR Affiliate Chapters and Members
From: Richard G. Liddick, Vice Chairman and Candidate
I am writing to ask for your support for the position of Chairman. Some of you know me, but for those of you that do not I would like to list my qualifications for this office:
I have been a MG Owner since 1986 when I bought my first car, which was a 1977 Inca Midget. In 1988, I joined the MGs of Baltimore, Ltd. Car Club after attending MGs On the Rocks. Not long after becoming a member of my local MG club, I volunteered to be the membership coordinator. I maintained the club roster, worked on getting new members and handled the collection of dues.
In 1990, I went to England for the Silverstone event hosted by the M.G. Car Club and have been a member of that club since.
In 1991, I was elected President of the MGs of Baltimore and have held that position to this day.
In 1992, I attended the MG 92 event or NAMGBR's first convention held in Peterborough, Ont. I also got my second MG, a 1971 MGBGT.
I joined NAMBGR in 1993 member #3-1235
In 1995, I was presented with the Enthusiast of the Year Award from NAMGBR for my efforts in promoting the Marque and the Register. Also it was during this time that I was approached by both Rick Ingram and Ken Smith to work as the Publicity Coordinator for the Register since I was having great success in getting my write-ups of the various MG events I attended published in magazines such as Safety Fast, Enjoying MG and of course the MGB Driver. I have held this position with NAMGBR since then.
In 1998 I was co-chairman of MG98, the Seventh Annual North American MGB Register Convention. When the chairman Joe Clark took ill, I took charge and working with the convention committee, we got it done. This was a great event and while we didn't make much money, a good time was had by all.
In 2004, I was elected Vice Chairman of the Register and since that time, I have been working as the contact between the Register and the local affiliate clubs. So, far we have gotten six new chapters this year.
In 2005, I was appointed NAMGBR's representative on the MG Council and have been working with the Council to help make MG 2006 a great success. I have also been looking after NAMGBR's interest by negotiating a deal for the fair and equitable division of any profits that may come from the event amongst the Council and other MG Registers.
I promote NAMBGR within my own club by having a NAMBGR table set up at our local show MGs on the Rocks and by including a membership application and benefits of membership list to all new members who join our club.
There is a bit of my MG history, wow. I feel am better qualified for the job, then my opponent. Why? Because I do what I say and if I tell you I will do a job, consider it done and done on time. I will watch over the organization and its monies as if they are mine. You can count on me to go to the NAMGBR Executive Board for all of the decisions that will cost the members money. I will do my best to keep the organization running smoothly and leave it in the same and hopefully better condition than when I came into office.
In a little while you will be receiving the ballot for the up coming election, please complete it and return it or bring it with to the Annual Business Meeting (AGM), which will be held October 22, 2005, in Baltimore, MD, at the Towson Ramada Inn. This is a critical time for the Register, the current leadership has righted the ship we are moving ahead, now is not the time to go backwards, please help me lead us forward. I ask for your support.
Safety Fast! Richard G. Liddick
