January 2017
2016 in retrospect…
Officially the CMGC driving season is only 8 months long starting in April and finishing up in November. During this driving time last year, club members could participate in 2 weekend driving tours, six day-trip tours, five autocrosses, five rallies, eleven scheduled membership get-togethers – like club picnics, natter ‘n noggin – car shows, not to forget the many tech sessions – both planned and unplanned – along with the annual British Car Swap Meet and national MG conventions. WOW… that is a lot of activities packed into a short 8-month season.
I personally joined the Chicagoland MG Club to find a MG car to purchase and maybe get back into driving and maintaining the car like I used to do many years ago. What I found was not only a car, but a family of enthusiasts for the little British cars enjoying the driving experience and comradery in a social environment. Even though I haven’t spent as much time working on my ‘project car’ as I thought I would, I did enjoy driving the many hills and back roads of Illinois and Wisconsin, sharing my experiences over a cool beer in the evening on the motel patio after a thrilling day on the road. The rallies were challenging enough – I’m still trying to amass enough points to win one of the coveted shot-glass trophies.
