Free Car Safety Clinic For Seniors
at Lisle Public Works Garage, Lisle, Illinois
May 11, 2013
The Naperville and Lisle Townships TRIAD, in conjunction with the DuPage County Sheriff's Office, the Lisle Police Department, the Village of Lisle Fleet services, Lisle High School, and vintage/antique automobile owners was providing comprehensive auto inspections for seniors. The multiple point inspections check fluids, battery, belts, hoses, tire condition and pressure, vehicle lighting and more. This free service is provided to help ensure vehicles are safe for senior drivers. This is the second year for participation of the Chicagoland MG Club in this public service day.
This year there were about 38 client cars visiting for the inspection service somewhat more than the prior year. CMGC has been fielding minimally one inspection team of 3 or 4 members, although this year we had a few more members participating. We also provide some of our classic cars for the clients to see and enjoy while they are waiting for their inspections to be done.
Spring Chicken Rally/Tour
May 19, 2013
We started with a beautiful morning at Starbucks in Deer Park. There
were over 20 MG’s of all colors and vintage waiting to cruise thru the very picturesque McHenry and Lake County countryside. My MGB was in sick bay so we had to use my wife’s Altima. (The air conditioning was nice.) After some basic instructions, we started out and found the route relatively easy to follow. Perhaps the clues for the questions were a little too easy. Ten of us tied for first place. And that was after answering the trick question about colors on a water tower we passed ten miles back.
The top three awards were by a drawing were:
1st Ray and Sue Hansen
2nd Tom and Terri Holzman
3rd Steve and Liz LaFond
|
The other seven teams were Russ and Amy Mehaffey, Jim and Lois Evans, Ric and Nancy Maitzen, Ralph and Sue Arata, David and Lisa Novak, Roger and Shirley Goebbert and Phil and Sandy Wydra
There were no reports of any malfunctions with the autos, unless it was the brakes of an unnamed driver who rolled thru a stop sign in Johnsburg. He must have been a handsome devil, because the female officer let him off with a warning. Had it been me pulled over; I would be writing this from the pokey!
George did a fantastic job of organizing, and planning the route. Having lived in the area for almost 25 years, he had us on roads I never knew existed. The food back at George’s house was truly wonderful. A huge thank you goes to George’s wife Jana for the fabulous spread and for opening up their beautiful home to the club.
Maybe it was a good thing we had my wife’s car, not sure if I would have fit back into the “B” again after the desert tray passed my way twice, or was that three times. But who’s counting. The “Ultimate Oreo Brownies” were to die for.
A big thank you goes out to George and Jana for a great outing. Looking forward to the “Land’s End Rally” on June 9th.
