MG Mid Summer Party
July 7, 2018
Slot racing with car guys, with a day at the beach!
Come join an MG Mid Summer party Saturday July 7th from 1pm to 5pm at the home of Scott Fohrman and Judy Carmona at 637 Sheridan Square in South Evanston. This year, we’ll provide the desserts and beer. Feel free to bring anything you would like to lunch on and we’ll have the grill hot and space in the fridge.
Plan to explore the 100 year old house which has been undergoing restoration for now 12 years. Find a place to relax with MG friends in the house or on the roof deck and enjoy the day. Or, our house is less than 1/2 a block from Evanston’s South Ave. beach. The large soft sand beach remains fairly shallow and you can walk far into Lake Michigan, making the water warmer (usually) and fun for non-swimmer to get wet. Admission to the beach is $8 for adults and $6 for kids under 12. Plenty of room for changing and showering at the beach or at the house.
Not sure if the slot track will be operational, but if so, there will be racing on a 4 lane 18 x 8 foot slot racing track that criss-crosses the table 4 times. The track features huge elevation changes, silly scenery (look for the nude sun bathers or the teens overturning the outhouse) and with drinking and race driving allowed.
We have off street parking behind the house via the alley/driveway to the west side of the house. Last year we had 10 cars and weren’t full. If full, park on Sheridan Square which has a 2-hour time limit (remind me when you come in to give you a parking permit which eliminates that problem). You can also park on Sheridan Road or anywhere west of Sheridan Road in the quiet neighborhood to the west.
Would appreciate an RSVP even if it’s last minute so we know how much deliciousness and beer to buy. Please call Scott with any question on his cell @ 847 212-9388. Hopefully it will be “cooler by the lake”! Look forward to seeing you!

DID - U - KNOW

In a fairytale display of pomp and pageantry the Duke and Duchess of Sussex tied the knot at Windsor Castle. Then, with number plates proclaiming the date, they departed for their evening reception in a 50-year-old silver blue Jaguar E-Type. Although it appeared to be only another classic car from the royal stable it was anything but. The royals were riding in E-Type Zero.
Just as the royal couple appreciates tradition while embracing the future, Jaguar have committed themselves to a family of eco-friendly vehicles. While this requires low and zero emissions going forward that focus alone is not considered sufficient. With the very real possibility of petrol vehicles being banned from large cities in the future, Jaguar have decided it is just as important to look back as to look ahead. In their words the goal is to “future proof” classic car ownership.
With reverence for the past and enthusiasm for the future, E-Type Zero debuted in September 2017. Converted to 100% electric operation, performance of the 1968 classic has been improved while retaining vintage styling and driving characteristics. Additionally, nothing has been altered which would prevent returning the vehicle to original form, thus retaining collector value. Just as the new royal couple has been a paragon of change, this may be the best of British tradition retooled to meet the future.
