Sixth Annual CMGC Camping Trip for BRIC Races at Road America
July 20-22, 2001
by Jake Snyder

Plymouth Rock Camping Resort.
Just down the road from Gate 2,
Road America entrance

Now is the time to think about shaking the bugs out of the old tent and sleeping bags to get ready for the July 20 - 22 trip to Road America. Once again club members have staked out a site at Plymouth Rock across the road and up the hill a little from Gate 2. We have the White 8 circle for the nights of July 20 and July 21. The camping trip is centered around the Brian Redman International Challenge, a reunion of the Can-Am cars that raced at Road America thirty-five years ago. We usually get to Plymouth Rock late Friday afternoon, pitch the tents and go out for supper as a group. We come back in time to watch late-comers pitch their tents in the dark.

Saturday brings the races by day, a group supper in the campground (bring meat if you eat it and a dish to pass), and a concours of rare sports cars in Elkhart Lake in the evening, followed by the Mecum car auction near Siebken's. Sunday has many races and the Can-Am feature. Just as important are the smaller bore classes that include fellow club members in the drivers' ranks with their race-prepared MGs.

We have about five adult spaces left as of this writing. If our site fills to capacity, there are single tent spaces available, but the campground does fill rather quickly. For information on registering for the group site, call Ann or Jake at 847.295.2753 or
snyder@chicagolandmgclub.com.

For a separate single camping site, you can make a reservation directly with Plymouth Rock Campground, P.O. Box 445, Elkhart Lake, WI 53020, phone 920.892.4252, fax 920.893.8452. Road America tickets are available at 800.365.7223 or www.roadamerica.com. Prices are $65 for a 4-day super ticket, $30 Saturday, $35 Sunday. The weather is always perfect.

You will need to make your camping reservations directly with
Plymouth Rock Campground.
The cost is about $30 per night for two persons.

If the club site is filled, there are overflow sites at Plymouth Rock
(come to the campfires and supper, of course).

The Plymouth Rock Camping Resort
office number is 920-892-4252.
Be patient - they are very busy.
