Original bi-metal bearing, left two pictures.-- Replacement bronze bushing, right two pictures.
The original bi-metal bushing was intentionally a bit undersize on theOD to allow for production assembly tolernces. It must be reamed to 1.3750-inch inside diameter after being pressed into the housing, to allow for proper oil film clearance.
The replacement solid bronze bushing is nominal size as delivered. but it is light press fit on the OD. It may be compressed slightly during installation, making the ID interference fit or very tight on the propshaft spigot diameter. As such, thenew bushing may need to be honed a bit to provide easy running fit, and to allow for proper oil film clearance.
