MINUTES FOR MEETING 2/19/01
The meeting was called to order at 8:03pm by David Bralich. Also present were Ray Glorioso, Debra Mennell and Dave Mullis. There were 49 members present and 6 new members or guests.
Several cars are being worked on due to accident damage and interior installations. Curt Bork has so much fun restoring his TD that he has undertaken the restoration of a 47 TC.
OLD BUSINESS
Amtrack Road Trip: The 5th annual Amtrack road trip was held on Friday, January 19th
through Sunday, January 21. There were 6 couples this year visiting the Studebaker Museum in South Bend, Indiana. Visits were also made to the cultural center to see an excellent re-creation of some of Abraham Lincoln speeches by the Lincoln Player, followed by dinner at an Italian restaurant and a visit to the Chocolate Factory. By all accounts a very enjoyable and pleasant trip.
Tech Sessions: Paul Urquhart held two tech sessions in February. On February 3, he did an engine and transmission and on February 17 a new top was put on a 61 marque II. There are pictures and further information on the web page.
Dues: Dues are due by the end of March. The roster will be scrubbed at that time. Make sure your name stays on our roster so that you will not miss any issues of our Driveline.
Awards Banquet: The annual meeting and awards banquet was held at the Superosa Restaurant in Lisle on February 18, 2001 with 37 members in Attendance. There was plenty of pizza, pasta, salad, wine, beer and pop to go around two or three times with carry out boxes at the end. Officer reports were made followed by a financial breakdown of the swap meet and Abingdon meetings. Mike Olsen gave a report of past rallies and upcoming events after which the awards were distributed. Details can be found on our web site.
Regalia: Larry Daniels reported that a new shipment of hats and t-shirts had arrived. There are also about 15 grill badges left, get one before they're gone.
NEW BUSINESS
Swap Meet & Auto Jumble: Jim Evans reported on our upcoming swap meet on Sunday, February 25, 2001. It will again be held at the DuPage County Fairgrounds beginning at 8:00am for the general public and running to 3:00pm. It is open to all for a $3.00 admission price. We have about thesame number of vendors as last year.
Jim has passed out the sign-up sheet for 2 hour set-up and clean-up assistance. Set-up begins Saturday night at 6:00pm and Sunday check in of vendors is at 6:00am with the admission of the general public at 8:00am.
Missouri Endurance Rally: The St. Louis MG club famous Missouri Endurance Rally is scheduled for March 24 & 25 of this year. This rally has been run every year since 1996. This year it is a 1000 mile, 24 hour rally. There are 40-50 state parks which will be put in a hat and then 10 will be pulled. You will map your own route using these 10 parks as your check points. Shortest route wins. There is a $20.00 fee and, as always, more information can be obtained on the web page - we have a link set.
Tech Sessions: The technical seminar on MG maintanance will be at Al Piemonte Ford, 2500 W. North Ave, Melrose Park on March 17, 2001. This year's spring tune up is April 22 at Quality Tires (was the Goodyear) at 6710 Rt 83, Darien on April 22, 2001. Bring your own parts, the lift will be available to anyone that wants to use it. Road America Camping Trip and Race: The "white" circle has been reserved for the weekend of July 20 for any members wishing to camp at the Plymouth Rock Camping resort. Please contact Jake or Ann Snyder to place your reservations and join us at the vintage races this year.
Spring Chicken Rally: Don Anderson gave an update on the upcoming rally. It will be in May, beginning in the Menard's parking lot on Rt. 53 just south of I55. The registration will be around 10:30am with the start at 11:30 - 12:00pm with a termination at the White Fence Farm in Joliet for dinner.
After meeting programs: Ray Glorioso announced the resurrection of the meeting programs and has asked people to think about topics they would like to see covered. If you have any suggestions please contact Ray by e-mail or phone.
Detroit Auto Show: Steve Selan gave a report on information he picked up at the Detroit Auto Show. BMW has new mini's - 4 cylinder Austin engine, basically a re-engineered version of the original mini. There were Cooper and Cooper turbo's which will be available in this country in 2002 with 2-3 dealerships in the Chicagoland area.

Raffle: The 50/50 raffle was won by Neil Janota.
The meeting was concluded at 8:30pm. Tonight's program was a film entitled the "Magic Midget".
