MINUTES FOR MEETING 3/19/01
Cowboy Dave Bralich, Ray Glorioso, Dave Mullis, And Steve Selan, who graciously agreed to fill in for Deb Mennell as acting Secretary, called the meeting to order at 8:00 P.M with. 61 members present, including new member Rick Mason.
OLD BUSINESS
Swap Meet: Jim Evans announced another highly successful event with attendance just slightly exceeding last year’s. We had 740 spectators; 65vendors taking 77 tables, and net proceeds exceeding last year’s revenue. Jim thanked everyone who assisted in putting on this event and agreed to run the event again next year. On behalf of the entire Club membership, Jim was thanked for his efforts.
Dues: David Bralich, announced that Club dues were due no later than April 1, 2001 Members who do not pay their dues by that date will be dropped from the roster and will not receive the May newsletter. Members were urged to mail their checks in at once!!!
Tech Session: Maynard Hirsch, announced the successful demonstration of a brake system repair on an MG Midget at Al Piemonte Ford on March 17, 2001. Eight members were present to assist in the rebuild. It was also announced that thru the efforts of Russ Casolari, Al Piemonte has agreed to host our Fall Tune Down Party. The Club wishes to thank Russ and Mr. Piemonte for their gracious and continuing support of this event.
Tech Session: Steve Merical, has taken over the position of Technical Coordinator and has already conducted his first tech session covering the rebuild of an MGA cylinder head on 3-18-01. Future sessions are in the works, and he is looking for input from the membership on what you would like to learn .The next event would be a carb swap between a Stromberg to S.U. on 3-31-01. He has also set up an e-mail notification and reminder system, if you wish to be notified of future events just e-mail Steve and ask to be placed on his list.
NEW BUSINESS
Spring Chicken Rally: Don Anderson has set 5-6-01 as the date for our annual first rally of the season. It will be a simple low-key event, to get the cobwebs out in anticipation of a very full season ahead. Try to make it, details elsewhere in the DRIVELINE. The rally will conclude at White Fence Farm. and Don has promised we wont have to concern ourselves about “Mad Chicken Disease”.
Spring Tune Up Party and Pizza Party: This event is scheduled for 4/22/01 at Quality Goodyear in Darien. Check the Driveline for additional information.
Regalia: Larry Daniels announced that the Club has now committed to order fender covers and club jackets, any one interested contact Larry.
Land’s End Rally: Tom Josefek announced that plans are well under way for the Land’s End Rally. The event will return to its prior format as a weekend rally over 6-9 & 6-10-01. Don Q will be the host motel.
Tool Master, Jim Evans, advised that three new tools are on order, a nut socket for early style Banjo axles, tilt for the engine hoist, and an exhaust gas analyzer. All tools are now stored at Jim’s home and can be reserved by calling him at 630-858-8192.
Abingdon Summer Party, per event coordinator, Reinout Vogt, plans are well under way for this year’s party. There will be some changes, refinements and a lot of fun. But it will take a great deal of work and he needs volunteers to assist the various committee chairpersons. If you can help, call Reinout or any Club officer. The event will take place between 8-2-01 & 8-4-01 and represents a significant commitment of time, effort and money on the part of the Club! Don’t hesitate to come forward and help!!!
50/50 Drawing: Won by Pam Hansen
Program: Mike Olsen gave an informative talk on the pluses and minuses of synthetic oil. As an Amzoil dealer he has done extensive research on the subject, which he shared with us. Pluses are it’s a noticeably superior product for severe use. Minuses are it’s expensive. For more info or to place an order call Mike at 847-882-4836
