Swap Meet Recap
The 5th Annual All British Car Swap Meet & Autojumble was held February 25 at the DuPage County Fairgrounds in Wheaton, IL.
Approximately 65 vendors rented 85 spaces to market their “treasures” to over 700 buyers. Items available ranged from used parts to memorabilia to clothing items to an MGA “Twin Cam” in need of restoration. Vendors came from as far away as Pennsylvania with several from Ohio, Michigan, and other nearby states. Buyers also came from numerous out-of-town locations as evidenced by their addresses on the mailing list sign up list.
This event has developed a good reputation as a major event on the British car scene in the midwest and as a valuable market place for both buyers and sellers. As in the past, most of the British car oriented clubs in the Chicago area promoted the event to their existing members and even set up recruiting booths to attract new ones.
This event would not be successful without the help of the many Chicagoland MG Club members who volunteered their time to take tickets, clean up, and perform other duties. Those active this year include: Bill Mennell, Bill Hedrick, Kim Tonry, Barney Gaylord, Jake Snyder, Reinout Vogt, Tom Dyer, Tom Sotomyer, Dave Bralich, Kelvin Palmer, Oscar & Diana Gonzales, Roger & Shirley Goebbert, Steve Sellan, Jim Renkar, Ray Glorioso, David Lieb, Steve Merical, Geoff & Deb Morris, Maynard Hirsch, and several others. Our thanks to all of you and my apologies if your name was omitted from the list above.
Based on the positive feed back from all concerned, the club will repeat this event again next year.
