Missouri Endurance Rally
March 24-25 St Louis, MO
Congratulations to the survivors of the running of the 6th annual Missouri Endurance Rally. Fourteen of the Fifteen cars entered finished the event. Considering that the total mileage accumulated by all of the cars was about 15,000 miles, it’s not terribly surprising that one car didn’t finish (just ask Mr Bill).
The Chicagoland MG Club was represented by three entries this year. Paul Urquhart and Steve Merical were giving a their first try in Paul’s ‘62 MGA MK-II. David and Michaela Lieb were having their first go at it in their ‘74 Midget. And the Bomber Brothers team Kim Tonry and Bill Hedrick were back again in the infamous ‘71 Midget, MrBill3. Appearantly fate was not on our side this year. At the time of this writing word is still out on the demise of the Paul’s MGA. The Bomber Brothers team did finish the rally but only managed to accrue nine of the required 10 checkpoint visits in the time allowed. The Liebs did a little better with a complete run and all ten checkpoints accounted for, but they also turned in the longest mileage reading with 1134 official miles run. Considering that they drove the most miles, I suspect that they also had the most fun.
Ultimate winner of the event was the repeating Team Fokowie with Rick Varhay and Rick Ingram in their ‘74 MGB-GT, finishing with an official 988 miles, and the only team to make all ten checkpoints and still finish with less than 1000 miles. Official rally results are posted here, and I’m sure we will be hearing many more stories about this in the weeks to come.
Barney Gaylord, depressed about not being there
