Technical Seminar at
Al Piemonte Ford
March 16, 2003 - 9:00 AM
We had another good spring technical seminar this year doing brakes all around on an MGB and giving a Midget a good checking over. The MGB had mostly typical problems for a high mileage brake job (picture left), except that one front wheel bearing was too loose even without shims. The quick solution for that problem was to grind a little off the length of the inner race bearing spacer, followed by the typical prescription shimming job to get the proper running clearance for the bearings. The Midget was doing okay with the brakes, but had a funny wear pattern on the front tires, looking like a tow out problem. It didn’t take long to discover the cause (picture right). On the left side the lower trunion pin was broken off at the front end causing misalignment of the kingpin, as well as a hazzardous driving condition. The trunion pin and the front a-arm bracket will need to be changed. This might be doner at the Spring Tune Up Party on April 13th.
We have a good selection of tech sessions lined up, no less than four for April (see announcements), and more in the works. We hope to see you out to another on soon.
