Life at the Fix-It Garage

Contact Steve to discover what may be happening in his shop on any given week end. There may be periodic reports to members via weekly email messages, and possibly monthly reports in the club newsletter.

If you would like to host a home garage tech session, please stand up to be noticed. Last one of those was August 2013.

Spring Tune Up Party
April 22, 2017
12:00-noon to 4:00-pm

2S781 IL-59, Warrenville, IL
(click for map)

For the fourth year Don’s Auto Aid (Goodyear) will be hosting the annual tune-up party. This is your opportunity to put your MG up on a service rack and see your car from the bottom up. Squishy brake hoses? Soft motor mounts? Suspension bushings looking a little sick? Now’s the time to find out before the driving season arrives in full. Of course I’ll be there to offer expert advice for any problem that may surface. Well, I can at least tell you who to see about it. Cowboy and others will be there to help out.
There is a Car Quest just up the street, but it would be best to bring your own 20w50 and filters. As Don’s is a full service garage, all work must be finished so that the racks are open for business Monday morning. Tire mounting, including on wire wheels, and alignments will be available. Don’s is located on the east side of Rte. 59 about a mile north of the E/W tollway.

CHANGE OF PLANS: We will still be at Don's Auto Ade for the tune-up, but do to scheduling conflicts Two Brothers' Brewery is out. Instead we will go to Rock Bottom Brewery, 28W256 Diehl Road. NW corner of Winfield and Diehl Roads (just south of the E/W toll way exit) in the Cantera Complex. This is where the Healey Club holds their auto-cross and we were there several years ago.

Saturday April 22nd, 12noon at Don's.
5PM at Rock Bottom.
If you plan go to Rock Bottom only, let me know that afternoon so that we can give them a head count.

Free Car Safety Clinic For Seniors
Saturday, October 14, 2017

Naperville and Lisle Townships TRIAD Free Car Clinic for Seniors, Saturday October 14, 2017.

The safety clinic which provides a free 40-point safety inspection of vehicles driven by senior citizens (ages 50 and older). The event grows each year as the Triad organization’s outreach to seniors continues to expand.

Vintage and antique cars will again be on display; most are vehicles owned by our volunteer “car guys” who help perform the inspections. Chicagoland MG Club (CMGC) member Jim Vondran coordinates the Triad car safety clinics and really appreciates the enthusiastic participation of volunteers from the CMGC, the Chicago area Model T Club, and the Chicagoland Miata Club each year.

Please contact Jim directly at (630) 234-7102 to affirm your participation, either as an inspection team crew-member and/or displaying your vintage car, or just stopping by for a portion of the time so that our seniors can see your car while their vehicles are being inspected.

Additional Background:
The Naperville and Lisle Townships TRIAD, an organization dedicated to the safety and well being of senior citizens, is a partnership of local governments, law enforcement and fire departments, senior citizens, community groups, and private entities serving the growing senior population. The Triad organization presents several safety and social programs for seniors each year. Visit for more information.
