Mercy Home for Boys
The Mercy Home for Boys in downtown Chicago has been selected to receive a charitable contribution from the club in 2003. The proceeds from the 50/50 raffle will be donated at the end of the year. Mercy Home is a residential facility with a capacity to help about 95 young men between the ages of 11 and 20. Mercy Home is 97% self-funded, so they were very pleased to be selected by our club for a donation again this year. In its 115 year existence, Mercy Home has served over 20,000 youths. Also this year, we will be holding a model car drive for the boys. We did this in 1998, at which time around 50 models were given to them.
According to the folks at Mercy Home, this was well received and was a very successful program . They were also very pleased that the CMGC would do this again. So, for the next several months, we’ll be accepting donations from members at club meetings of model cars, boats, or planes. No paints or glue please, at the request of Mercy Home. Club members will deliver the raffle proceeds and the models to Mercy Home sometime near the holidays. This is a great way to provide support and encouragement to these kids, and also to recognize the Mercy Home for Boys for the wonderful work they are doing.
