Spring Chicken Rally
May 4, 2003
by Mike Hirsch
I was informed that as winner of the rally I was also given the dubious honor or writing about the event.
The day started off cool and cloudy. As we drove to the starting point, it keep looking like the sun would come out, yea right. When we started the mileage check, most of us put the tops down. However, after the check, most of us put the tops back up. It was a little too cool for most of us.
The route was very scenic and had many nice drivers’ roads. There were a few gravel roads, but most of the roads were well paved and very lightly traveled. The route was such that we passed no traffic lights.
The route instructions were in a cryptic format, but very easy to follow. Wade Keene, rallymaster for the event, also passed out a page of photos and questions to identify and answer along the way. Again, not too hard.
The rally took about 3 hours of easy driving, nobody got seriously lost and ended up at Coleman’s in Algonquin. Overall, the rally was fun, just the right level of difficulty for the first rally of the season. Thanks to Wade Keene for putting on a fun rally.
