The Steering Column
Is summer half way through already? I guess officially it’s more than half, but for me it seems to have just started. I consider June & July only the first half. The start of the second half is kicked off with the Abingdon weekend. As I stated last month this is my favorite club event. Starting with the conga line drive down to Abingdon, along with “road kill BINGO”. The Friday night hospitality suite is a chance to meet and greet friends that I have not seen for a year. It is also a great time to meet new friends and by the time the Saturday banquet starts I have met a lot of new and really interesting people.
You don’t need to have a beautiful car to enjoy Saturday’s car show. For all of you have not seen my green 67. It is very interesting (performance wise) but it is very ugly at the same time. It still has its original pint and some not original (but standard) rust. Following the car show is the now “Famous Abingdon Gymkhana”. Here is a chance to show what a MG can do. Many of the town’s people come out just to watch us run around cones in the middle of their downtown.
If you wish to join us for the conga drive down, we will be meeting at 10:00 Friday August 16th at the Amoco gas station at the (NE) corner of highway 47 & 34 in Yorkville. We will leave no later than 10:30.
Until next month (or driving event) “Safety Fast” to all of you.
