10/19/98 MEETING REPORT 22nd Annual Birthday
Maynard Hirsch, Diana Gonzales, Steven Selan,
and Sharon Anderson called the meeting
to order at 8:03 P.M. 50 members were present.
Three new members were present: Paul Wrightson, Rey Navarro, and Dean Pearson.
Abingdon: Jim
Evans reported the second largest attendance in the history of the event
with 51 couples bringing a total of 58 cars. The highlight of the event
was the Autocross conducted in downtown Abingdon and organized by Barney
Gaylord. All members present expressed their appreciation for the work done
by Jim and Lois Evans and look forward to next year's event.
Abingdon Trials: Bill Hedrick and Kim Tonry reported on a highly
successful first- running of the Abingdon Trials over a 2-day period. The
endurance rally covered some 900 miles with a very close finish between
all the contenders. It was announced that the event would be presented again
next year..
Siemens' Autocross: Reinout Vogt reported that 21 drivers competed
in three prepared MGBs, 9 street cars, and 1 MG Midget. While some members
reported they were confused by the route initially, after a few laps everyone
was able to find their way around the course. The event was another resounding
success for Reinout. Look for this event again next year.
Halloween Rally: The event was run on October 18 and organized by
Larry Czachor with 9 cars competing. The winner was Reinout Vogt. Following
the event fellowship was had at Beef and Brandy Restaurant where the awards
were given out.
NEW BUSINESS
Christmas Party :
Reservations are now being accepted for the Annual Christmas Party scheduled
for Saturday, December 5, 1998 at the 94th Aero Squadron Restaurant in Wheeling.
The cost is $24 per person, and the deadline for reservations is November
20, 1998. Mail your check to Sharon Anderson.
Mercy Home for Boys: George Goeppner is again running our annual
charitable event on behalf of the children at the Mercy Home. This year
the directors requested that we donate model kits for the children to build.
Over 70 models were donated at the October meeting, and George will be collecting
models again at the November meeting. Please do not bring glue or paint.
NAMGBR Elections: Kim Tonry advised that elections for NAMGBR will
be conducted at their next national meeting on October 24. The Club voted
to support the nomination of Don Tugwell for Secretary and D. Zimmerman
for Vice-President.
Swap Meet: Jim Evans announced that the Third Annual Swap Meet will
again be held at the DuPage County Fairgrounds this year on February 28,
1999. He is looking for more vendors. If you have any ideas, give him a
call.
Nominations for Officers of Chicagoland MG Club-1999: Nominations
for officers for next year were accepted from the floor and will be open
through the end of the business meeting on November 16, 1998. Anyone interested
in running for office can contact any of the current officers, and their
name will be placed in nomination and seconded. The current nominations
are as follows: for President/Vice-President- Maynard Hirsch, Diana Gonzales,
Curt Bork; for Secretary-Steven Selan; for Treasurer- Sharon Anderson.
50-50 Raffle: Won by Ray and Madge VanTassle.
EVENING PROGRAM - Members of the Chicagoland MG Club celebrated the
22nd Annual Birthday meeting with cake and champagne. The members toasted
the Club on 22 fun-filled years, and all promised to meet again next year.
