Halloween Rally Comment
by Kelvin Palmer
As Reinout mentioned in the Rally Corner, Larry
Czachor's Halloween Rally was really something. You might of called it the
"Seeing Incredible Things in Your Own Backyard You Never Knew Were
There" rally. Larry departed from the usual in that you answered questions
only while AT certain destinations rather than looking for things while
driving. The destinations ran from the lakefront and several southside stops
back to the LaGrange / Countryside area. Each stop was an interesting and
educational site, all of which I had never seen or even heard of. The "Golden
Lady", a huge and brilliant statue south of the science museum just
off Lake Shore Drive, the ornate "Douglas" tomb on the lakefront,
a civil war monument at a cemetary on the south side, a huge metal sculpture
depicting the Marquette and Joliet expeditions, and the Little Schoolhouse
Nature Center were all included. At each stop you actually couldn't help
learning a little something in your efforts to answer Larry's questions.
The only unfortunate aspect of the rally was a mix-up in the stuffing of
sequenced instruction envelopes. Larry did a fine job of last minute "equalizing"
so the scoring could still be fair. Congrats to the winners Reinout &
Henneke Vogt. Thanks to Larry and his sister for a fun and educational day.
Future rally planners might consider this concept for upcoming events.
